Mark Gindick’s Wingman, Version 2.0

http://www.wingmantheshow.comBack in 2011, I saw Mark Gindick do his first solo show up at SUNY Purchase.  SEE MY REVIEW It was a cold and snowy day, and the show was really great, although just in its beginning stages.  At the  talkback afterwards, Mark explained that there would be a whole lot of changes coming.

Well, 2 years have passed, and he’s mounted it again, and there are TONS of changes.  Wing-Man recently won BEST ONE-MAN SHOW at the United Solo Theatre Festival, and it’s evolved into a live, interactive and modern take on Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times.  Instead of 1930’s mechanization, Wing-Man confronts the demands of modern digital technology on our lives.

He’s gone all high-tech on it, thanks to a successful KISS-starter campaign (which I promoted last year, and am a proud supporter of)  He took the money, and he has figured out how to transform the stage is  into a large video screen that becomes part of the production itself and is interactive with both the performer and the audience.  During the show he doesn’t speak a word, but his play with the audience is great, and between his charms as a clown (which he perfected on the Big Apple Circus and with the Happy Hour Trio)  and the cool new technology he’s bringing to the table, I’m sure the show is going to be awesome.

Getting inside the Gindick brain is not so easy. Thank goodness for technology.
