Burning BlueBeard at Theatre Wit through January 4, 2015 (Chicago)

Ruffians2Since I’ve moved to Chicago, I’ve gone to a few networking events, or met people involved .  Eventually it comes out that I’m a clown.  And then people start saying, “Do you know…”  Playing clown geography.

I had numerous people tell me that I should check out the Ruffians, especially their holiday show Burning BlueBeard, which was a big hit when last it was performed.  I thought it sounded familiar, and lo and behold I had tried to see the show (and wrote a preview article about it) when it came out in 2011!   Sadly I missed it then.  This year, living in Chicago, I’m not going to miss it.  And neitherburningblue_1 should you!

It’s a unique holiday show about a tragic fire that occurred in Chicago December 30, 1903.  The cast was performing a panto/show called Mr. Bluebeard.  The conceit of this show is that the performers are doomed to try to perform it again, this time WITHOUT the tragedy that killed 600 people, mostly  mothers and their children.

I’ll weigh in after I see it, but I can already tell I’m going to like it! The costume and set design in the pictures look amazing.
