MTM Lydia Biondi is sponsoring the second edition of Premio Internazionale Lydia Biondi in honor of the artist whose distinguished work as an actor, director, and teacher of Commedia dell’Arte won her recognition in Italy and around the world.

Biondi was born in Livorno, Italy, in May of 1942. She studied scenic design at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, as well as classical ballet, kinetics, mime, acting, and recitation  She worked for many years with  Swiss Mime group Mummenschanz, and also appeared in many avant-garde and experimental plays.  She appeared in over 40 films, including works by Spike Lee, Federico Fellini, and Rosselini, and more.  She also worked as choreographer in dance and opera. She  founded the non-profit organization MTM (Mimo-Teatro-Movimento), and served as the director and a teacher of its theater school.  She died in 2016, but her work lives on through MTM.

Now in its second year, the MTM Lydia Biondi Prize is open to young actors from all countries between 18 and 30 years old who can create either a solo or duo performance that through the blending of expressive theatre forms such as the spoken word (in multiple languages and or dialects), mime, movement, Commedia dell’Arte, physical theatre, dance, and song can be understood universally can apply.

You will have to perform your piece in Rome in November. (Tough, I know)

Finals: November 13, 2018, Teatro Torlonia, Roma
PRIZES :  First – € 1.000   Second – € 500   Third – € 300
Application deadline: September 30, 2018.
